10 Songs That Inspired My Dystopian Novel (3)

Certain songs draw out my creativity. But there are those songs that I attribute only to the project I’m working on. Think of it as a theme song. I found this song while watching an award show. And after I downloaded the song, I played it every time I was about to work on my manuscript.

Enly Saint Claire is fortunate. She attends an elite academy, is the heir to a billion-dollar fortune, and is betrothed to the future Lord Regent of the Great Plains. But what she desires most is her half-brother Jonah’s freedom. Jonah has been enslaved because of his mother’s mistakes. Enly plans to free Jonah when she becomes a lady regent. That plan backfires when her betrothed decides to marry someone else. Now Enly will do anything to free her half-brother, even if it means rejecting the love of her life.

“Nobody Love” by Tori Kelly

I have to admit, I couldn’t figure out what kind of person would be drawn to Enly. She is cold and calculating. I was snacking on some good junk food while watching an award show. I really can’t remember which one it was. But they introduced a newcomer to the music industry. And I was skeptical thinking that this performance might not be good. But when Tori Kelly began performing her new single, I was immediately captivated. Like with past instances, I quickly downloaded the song and played it on repeat. It was then that I realized that I was making things too complicated. Enly was just like anybody else. Except, there would have to be a reason or a circumstance that would compel Enly to make a friend. I won’t divulge the circumstances of how she makes her friends. Because, that will give away too much of the plot. Needless to say, I had a firm idea of what kind of society my character lived in and what kind of bonds she would form.I won’t divulge the circumstances of how she makes her own friends.
